The
Process, Product, and Context of Discipleship
What
Does The Product of Discipleship Look Like in the Believer? It should look like Jesus. It should be the manifest presence of the
Living God, who dwells in the believer, pressing forth in our lives, taking
ground that is rightfully His and conforming us to His Image.
But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness
and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God. 1 Corinthians 4:3-5

1. Personal
Development
My son, if you accept
my words and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding,
and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Proverbs 2:1-11
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2

2. Skills
In the spring, at the
time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the
whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But
David remained in Jerusalem. One evening David got up from his bed and
walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing.
The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about
her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the
wife of Uriah the Hittite?" Then David sent messengers to get her.
She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had purified herself from her
uncleanness.) Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word
to David, saying, "I am pregnant." 2 Samuel 11:1-5
After the time of mourning was over, David had her brought to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the LORD. 2 Samuel 11:27
He who answers before listening-- that is his folly and his shame. Proverbs 18:13
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8

3. Relationships
But Barnabas took him
and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen
the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had
preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. Acts 9:27
Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 2 Timothy 2:14-21
